today we did another exercise book on ohs about fire exinguishers and classes of fires and what type of exingushres to use in an emergancy and what sort of colours there are for them and what colour certain signs are and what they mean and were they should be used.
in 1 section of the book was on safety signs and what colour they qare and what the certain colours mean and were they should be in a certain work site for what is being used in that area of construction.
in another section it labels what the employer should do in a work situation if the noise is to high for over 8 hours with out anyone weraing hearing protection and that the employee should do the same to protect his own hearing and that of his workers.
in another section it tells you how to put a fire out by starting at the base and moving side to side slowly moving to the top.

doors

today
8/12/08
today i hung a plain single house hold door on a frame for the first time i learnt how to mark out were the hinges go and how to cut them out with a chisle and hung it properlly on the frame then installed a handle into the door by drilling a hole into the side of the door with a 24mm spade drill bit for the handle tounge the used a hole saw which was 25mm for the handle to go through the door.
we then whent out side to were some of the others were working on modle houses doing cladding and we looked at how they were put together and what was needed to proform this task we then pulled it all apart for the next group.
After lunch break we were in the class room doing a task book on how to work out calculations for the perimeter for a house and how to work out how much cover board was needed for the out side of a house and then take away all the spaces for the doors and windows unfortunatlly i found it a bit hard to work some of the caculations but slowlly got through it

skirting

4/12/08
today we started skirting a plank of timber resembling walls of a building first we we nailed to bits of double bull nose skirtting upright to resemble a door then we had to skirt around the rest of the block and butted them together with certain joints and differant angle cutts such as a 45 digrese and 22.5 digrese.
then after that we when around the bull nose skirtting with a small piece called a quad and whent half the way round and then finished with a 90 digere bend into the block of timber.
our lecturere then showed us how and what we are doing to doors tomoro.

today we installed a window into a wall frame and fitted it out the same as you would in a proper house, cladding, flashings, architecture and the sill on the bottom of the window.
then after all the work put into it we had to pull them apart.
yesterday the 2/12/08 we did a book on calculations on quoting a job for skirting and architicture the other book was on courses of bricks and how to install and replace a window and then after lunch we started our windows.
2/12/08
our leacture showed us how to use a raidial arm saw, a buzzer, and a thickneser and showed us the potential danger of them and what you could loose from being stupid around the machine or not using the machine how you were told to.
the book titled fixing out contained:
internal fixings and what sort there are and what they are used for,
how to do miter cuts so that one piece of moulding can fit together with the other piece so you caint see a gap.
the second book titled install & replace windows contained:
differant sorts of buildings built from differant materials such as stone, brick or concrete blocks,
most bricks are made from clay and are shaped to a requtangle shape and are then put in a kiln to be cooked so they go solid.
differant types of brick built walls such as a half bond (the most common)
english bond mostly used for retaining walls
flimish bond almost the same as a english bond
and the header bond all the bricks are layed with their ends facing out.
how to install a window.
when isntalling a window you put packers around the sides and bottom but not the top incase of the lintle sagging.

explosive power tools
01/12/08 today we learnt about e.p.t explosivee power tools and the danger and handyness of them compaired to dyna bolts. e.p.t's are a nail gun operated by a preasure safety valve and a gun powder capsule for the ignition you can use this tool to propell a nail through timber to steel, concrete and brick but never to hold timber to some thing it is to fragile like tiles, tera-cota and fibre board. There are to diferant types of this tool there is a direct acting and a indirect acting one the indirect one has a piston in it so it pushes the nail into the solid object instead of the direct one it just shoots the nail and is slightly more dangerous because it can shoot off if the gun lifts up apon firing. when using a e.p.t you dont need a liciense to use one in wa and when firing into your object for cement you must be atleast 75mm away from the edge and for steel you must be at least 15 mm away incase of it firing out the side of solid object and causing serious harm to your self or any one else ever y time you use one you must make sure evry one is at least 6 m away from the site and you must wear safety glasses, ear muffs and steel capped boots and always put signs up around your work site
